IIHM Launches Bengaluru Egg Bank For Sustained Student Nutrition Support
The International Institute of Hotel Management has started a programme to give eggs to people who need nutritious food.
It began in Bengaluru at a school for children who are blind.
IIHM students, called Food Soldiers, gave the children more than 700 eggs.
They plan to give eggs twice every month instead of only once.
This is because eggs do not stay fresh for a long time.
The programme may later help children’s homes, old-age homes and other institutions.
The Valmiki Foundation is helping IIHM run the project.
The organisers say the programme also supports the goal of reducing hunger.
IIHM launched its first Egg Bank in Bengaluru with the Valmiki Foundation.
IIHM students distributed more than 700 eggs to visually impaired children at Sri Rakum School for the Blind.
The Food Soldiers will provide eggs twice a month because the supplies are perishable.
The programme is expected to expand to old-age homes, orphanages and other institutions across Bengaluru.
Organisers said the Bengaluru project is the 177th Egg Bank overall and will support IIHM’s social-responsibility goals.
