8th Pay Commission Delhi talks conclude; IRTSA seeks ₹52,600 pay
The Indian government has a special group called the Pay Commission.
Its job is to decide how much money government workers will earn.
This group is now listening to workers talk about what they need.
Recently, it finished meetings with workers in Delhi.
A group of railway engineers called IRTSA asked for bigger salaries.
They want the smallest salary to be ₹52,600.
They also want workers in harder jobs to get bigger raises.
The Commission will visit more cities to hear from other workers too.
After all the meetings, it will suggest new pay rules to the government around 2027.
The final decision has not been made yet.
The 8th Pay Commission concluded its Delhi consultations on 10 August with central government employee unions and associations.
IRTSA demanded a minimum pay of ₹52,600, calculated using a 2.92 fitment factor.
IRTSA proposed differentiated fitment factors rising from 2.92 at Levels 1-5 to 4.38 at Levels 17-18.
The association also sought a 5% annual increment, Group B gazetted status for Senior Section Engineers and a five-grade structure for Junior Engineers starting at Level 7.
Further consultations are scheduled in Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh, with recommendations tentatively due to the central government by May-June 2027.
