8th Pay Commission Yet to Submit Report, Government Tells Parliament
In India, a special group called the Pay Commission helps decide how much money the government's workers get paid.
The government created a new group, the 8th Pay Commission, in November 2025.
It is led by a former judge from India's Supreme Court.
The group must finish its work and share its report by May 2027.
Right now, the report is not ready yet.
Nobody knows exactly how much more money workers will get, or when new salaries will start.
Many people are waiting, including nearly 36 lakh government workers and more than 33 lakh people who receive government pensions.
The group is talking to worker unions to hear what they want.
Some railway workers have asked for a minimum monthly pay of Rs 52,600.
The government says it will share the new salary details only after the report is submitted.
The government informed Parliament that the 8th Central Pay Commission has not yet submitted its recommendations.
The Commission, chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, was constituted on 3 November 2025 and has 18 months to report, with a deadline of May 2027.
Around 35.77 lakh central government civilian employees and 33.76 lakh pensioners and family pensioners (excluding Defence pensioners) could be affected.
Details on revised salaries, allowances, pensions and the effective implementation date remain unannounced until the report is submitted.
The Commission is holding regional consultations with unions; IRTSA has demanded a minimum pay of Rs 52,600 based on a 2.92 fitment factor.
