Pratik Karpe Demands AI, Satellite Survey of Mumbai's Water Sources
Mumbai is a big city in India, and it is worried about running out of water.
This is because the Earth is getting warmer, which can dry up lakes, wells, and springs.
A city leader named Pratik Karpe wants to make sure everyone has enough water in the future.
He asked the city government to look for all the places where water is found.
He wants to use satellites in space and smart computers to find them.
That way, every well, lake, and spring will be marked on a special map.
He also wants sensors in the water to check the water level day and night.
If the water gets too low or dirty, people would know right away and can fix it.
Other cities, like Tokyo, already save water in clever ways, and Mumbai wants to learn from them.
BJP Corporator and Mumbai BJP Secretary CA Pratik Karpe has urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) through a formal Notice of Motion to survey all water sources using modern technologies.
The proposal calls for all water sources to be surveyed using Artificial Intelligence and satellite technology, with accurate GPS coordinates mapped for every location.
Karpe recommended the creation of a GIS-based Digital Water Map and a Smart Water Monitoring Dashboard with IoT sensors for 24x7 monitoring of water levels and quality.
He proposed a deliberative study group including ISRO, IMD, INCOIS, IIT Mumbai and climate advocacy groups to develop a comprehensive action plan for Mumbai's water rejuvenation.
The demand aims to address potential water scarcity from rapid urbanisation and declining groundwater levels, drawing lessons from Tokyo's water harvesting infrastructure.
