Mumbai Metropolitan Region Raises Auto-Rickshaw and Taxi Fares
Auto-rickshaw and taxi rides in the Mumbai region will cost a little more.
The starting auto-rickshaw fare is now Rs 27.
The starting taxi fare is now Rs 33.
These prices cover the first 1.5 kilometers.
The change happened after CNG became Rs 2 more expensive per kilogram.
Officials also considered other costs of running the vehicles.
Drivers must update their electronic meters or show an approved fare chart.
They have three months to do this, and drivers who do not comply may be fined.
Minimum fares rise to Rs 27 for auto-rickshaws and Rs 33 for taxis for the first 1.5 km.
Auto-rickshaw fares increase to Rs 18.22 per km from Rs 17.14, while taxi fares rise to Rs 21.90 from Rs 20.66.
The increase follows a Rs 2-per-kg CNG price hike, bringing CNG to Rs 88 per kg in the MMR.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority approved the revision using the four-member Khatua panel’s fare formula.
Drivers have until the end of November to recalibrate meters or display approved fare tables, or they may face penalties.
