People riding autos and taxis in the Mumbai region will soon pay more.

The new auto fare will be Rs 27 for the first 1.5 kilometres.

The new taxi fare will be Rs 33 for the first 1.5 kilometres.

This means autos cost Re 1 more and taxis cost Rs 2 more at the starting fare.

The decision was approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority.

Officials said fuel has become more expensive.

They also said that running the vehicles now costs more.

The fare change applies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The authority made the decision at a meeting chaired by Sanjay Sethi.
