Delhi DDA Cancels 212 Demolition Drives Over Five Years
212 DDA demolition drives cancelled in last 5 years, Centre informs Rajya Sabha · indianexpress.com

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had planned 212 demolition drives to remove illegal structures, but over the past five years they had to cancel them because of problems like not enough police, court orders stopping the work, and disagreements about where the land actually belongs.

The DDA has still done 1,116 demolition drives in the last three years, taking back about 2,719 acres of land that was used for government buildings, roads, farms, green spaces, and street vendors.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs told the Parliament about these issues, and a minister explained the problems to the Rajya Sabha.

A member of Parliament asked questions about why the cancellations happened.

The main reasons were lack of police support, court stays, and disputes over land boundaries between different government departments.
