BRICS Education Ministers Adopt Five-Priority Declaration in Bhubaneswar
Some countries work together in a group called BRICS.
This year, India is the leader of the group, and it hosted a big meeting about schools and learning.
The meeting was held in a city in India called Bhubaneswar.
A minister named Pralhad Joshi led the meeting for India.
Education leaders from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia and the UAE came to talk.
They talked about how little kids can get a good start in learning and how young people can learn job skills.
They also talked about researchers sharing new ideas and about schools recognizing certificates from other countries.
At the meeting, everyone agreed to a shared plan called the BRICS Education Ministers' Declaration.
The plan has five big goals for helping the countries work together on education.
The leaders want to build strong, fair and future-ready schools for everyone.
India chaired the 13th BRICS Education Ministers' Meeting in Bhubaneswar on Friday, August 7, with Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi leading the Indian delegation.
The meeting unanimously adopted the BRICS Education Ministers' Declaration, marking an important milestone in education cooperation under India's BRICS Chairship 2026.
Ministers, senior officials and delegates from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia and the UAE took part in the meeting.
The declaration sets five priorities: early childhood care and education and foundational literacy, skill development and TVET, research and innovation and start-ups, mutual recognition of qualifications, and capacity-building for academic leadership.
The ministerial meeting followed the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials' Meeting hosted in Bhubaneswar on August 5, which finalised the draft declaration.
