BMC Speeds Up Ghatkopar Sewage Plant for 2027 Completion
Mumbai is building a large plant in Ghatkopar to clean sewage.
The plant is designed to process 337 million litres each day.
It will use a method called Sequential Batch Reactor technology.
The cleaned water is intended for reuse.
Officials say the project should also help improve coastal water quality and marine life.
About 1,000 workers are now working at the site.
The pipeline for one stage of treatment is expected by the end of 2026.
The whole plant is targeted for completion by March 2027.
The project is one of seven sewage plants being built around Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is building a 337-million-litre-a-day sewage treatment plant in Ghatkopar using Sequential Batch Reactor technology.
The liquid pipeline for secondary sewage treatment is targeted for completion by December 31, 2026, with the full project due by March 31, 2027.
Around 1,000 workers have been deployed at the site since October 1, 2026, and officials said the additional workforce should remain until completion.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar inspected the site and directed that work proceed simultaneously, with quality, safety and efficiency prioritized.
The Ghatkopar plant is one of seven STPs under construction; together they are planned to provide 2,464 MLD of capacity, alongside the operational 37 MLD Colaba STP.
