Two Suspected Vehicle Thieves Killed in Assam Police Shootout
Police in Assam were looking for a car reported stolen in Guwahati.
They found the car near Sonapur early Thursday morning.
Police said the car sped through a checkpoint and hit a concrete pillar.
Officers also said people inside the car fired at them.
The police returned fire, and two suspects were badly hurt.
The two men later died in a hospital.
A third person ran into a nearby forest and was still being searched for.
Police found two pistols, bullets, mobile phones and tools linked to car theft.
Investigators believe the group may have been part of a gang operating across state borders.
Two suspected vehicle thieves were killed in a police shootout near Sonapur around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the suspects were fleeing in a vehicle allegedly stolen from Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar area.
According to police, the vehicle rammed a checkpoint and the suspects opened fire before officers returned fire.
The deceased were identified as Saidul Alom Laskar of Cachar and Babu Singh of Imphal, Manipur.
A third suspect escaped into a forest, while police recovered pistols, ammunition, phones and theft equipment.
