Audit flags Rs 42 crore subsidy to dormant Delhi consumers

There is a special office that checks how the government spends money — it is called the CAG.

The CAG looked at a program in Delhi that gives people free or cheaper electricity.

The program was started in 2019 to help people who do not use much electricity.

The checkers found that people who used no electricity at all still got money back.

In fact, about Rs 42 crore went to these homes, which is a lot of money.

The checkers also found that people who used more electricity got a bigger discount than people who used less.

This means the help did not always go to the people who needed it most.

The CAG said Delhi should build a better and clearer system to make sure the money goes to the right homes.
