Amethi Excavation Uncovers 29 Copper Spheres, Possible Historic Ammunition
Workers found 29 large copper balls underground while digging a house foundation in Amethi.
The discovery surprised and worried nearby villagers.
The police collected the objects for safety.
Archaeology officials examined them and said they may have been used as ammunition.
Each sphere is about 60 centimeters wide and weighs roughly 9 to 10 kilograms.
The objects also have holes that may have been used for fuses.
Officials do not yet know how old they are or where they came from.
More investigation will be carried out if the government and archaeology department approve it.
Twenty-nine large copper spheres were found buried during house-foundation excavation in Bhanauli village, Amethi.
The objects were discovered on Tuesday, 18 August, while Mohammad Iqbal’s house foundation was being dug.
Police took the spheres into custody and informed the Archaeological Survey of India.
The Uttar Pradesh Archaeology Department said the objects appear to have been used as ammunition, but their age and origin remain unknown.
Officials will study their material, dimensions, corrosion and fuse-hole design to determine their history and purpose.
