Singappen Special Force Receives Thousands of Complaints
Tamil Nadu created a women-led police force called the Singappen Special Force.
It helps women and children who feel unsafe or need police assistance.

People can call 1091 for the force, and the service is connected to the 112 emergency system.
The Singappen Special Force received 3,245 complaints and registered 268 cases between June 10 and August 20.
The force traced 79 children and 46 women while visiting 104,918 reported hotspots across Tamil Nadu.
It also rescued 43 people with intellectual disabilities, stopped 21 child marriages and helped 105 dropouts return to school.
Chennai recorded 244 complaints, while Coimbatore had 257 and Salem city had 200.
The government approved 2,546 new posts, vehicles, surveillance equipment and the dedicated 1091 helpline linked to 112.
