Tamil Nadu is creating 2,546 police jobs for a special team that protects women and children.

The team has vehicles and new equipment to help it work.

Officials say it has rescued 125 missing women and children and reunited them with their families.

It has also held many safety-awareness programmes and stopped 21 child marriages.

The government is also fighting illegal drugs with special squads.

Police have made arrests and seized ganja and narcotic tablets.

The Chief Minister said preventing crime is as important as responding to it.

He also said police misconduct, corruption and deaths in custody must be investigated fairly.
