250 Residents Rescued After Portions of Palghar Building Collapse
On a Saturday afternoon, part of an apartment building in India suddenly broke and collapsed.
The building, called Roshni Apartments, is in the town of Nalasopara in the Palghar district of Maharashtra.
It started when a balcony on the second floor fell onto the first floor, which then collapsed under the weight onto the ground floor.
Around 250 people were inside the building, mostly women, children, and older residents, because many men were away at work.
Firefighters, city officials, and police quickly came to the building and helped everyone get out safely.
No one was injured in the incident, which officials said was lucky because it could have been a major tragedy.
The rescued families were moved to temporary relief camps, where they are being given food and essential supplies.
The building is now completely sealed because the remaining part is in a precarious condition.
Officials are investigating the exact cause of the collapse before deciding whether to demolish or stabilize the building.

The remaining structure has been sealed and families were moved to temporary relief camps; the cause of the structural failure is under investigation.
