EC to serve notices to 63.24 lakh Jharkhand voters
Before elections, the government keeps a big list of people who are allowed to vote.
That list is called the electoral roll.
In Jharkhand, officials checked this list house by house to make sure it was correct.
They took off people who had died, moved away, or were hard to find.
They also spotted names that did not seem to match, like a voter whose listed parent appeared too young or too old.
Now more than 63 lakh people on the list have been asked to come and show their documents.
If they can prove who they are, they can stay on the list.
People who were left off the new list by mistake can still ask to be added back before September 4.
Officials will finish all the checking by October 3.
The final list will be ready on October 7.
The Election Commission will issue notices to 63,24,116 voters in Jharkhand to appear for hearings as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Notices will go to 45,55,227 voters with logical discrepancies, 14,03,205 unmapped voters and 3,65,684 voters with demographic similar entries.
The EC identified 15 categories of logical discrepancies, including mismatches in parent names and cases where the age difference between a voter and parent is under 15 or over 50 years.
The draft electoral rolls, published on Wednesday, contain 2.21 crore voters after 43.61 lakh names were deleted for reasons including death, permanent shifting and untraceability.
The hearing and verification phase will conclude on October 3, and the final electoral rolls will be published on October 7.
