West Bengal govt in talks with Tata group for fresh investments

A very big company called the Tata group may come back to a state in India called West Bengal.

A long time ago, Tata Motors started building a car factory in a place called Singur.

Some people were upset because they did not want to give up their land for the factory.

They protested, led by a leader named Mamata Banerjee.

Because of the protests, Tata Motors left Singur in 2008 and moved its small car project to another state called Gujarat.

Now, many years later, the West Bengal government wants Tata to invest in the state again.

The minister in charge of industry, Tapas Roy, says talks are happening.

Tata already has businesses in West Bengal in computer services, metals, hotels and shops.

The government is hoping Tata will grow these businesses or even start new ones.

There is still an old argument about money that may be owed to Tata, but the minister did not want to talk about it.
