Education Ministry Seeks Public Input on University Townships Initiative
The government of India wants to build special places called University Townships.
These would be like small cities for learning.
They would have universities, colleges, research labs, and skill centres.
People could study and learn new skills there.
The townships would be built near big factories and roads.
This way, students can learn skills that factories need.
The government wants to know what people think about this idea.
So it asked students, teachers, and business people to fill out a survey.
The survey is on a website called MyGov.
Anyone interested in education can share their ideas.
The Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide public consultation on the University Townships Initiative via a survey on the MyGov platform.
The scheme was proposed in the Union Budget 2026-27 to assist state governments in creating university townships in five locations near major industrial or logistics corridors.
The planned academic zones will include universities, colleges, research institutions, skill development centres, residential complexes, and other support facilities.
Inputs are being sought from students, faculty, researchers, administrators, alumni, industry representatives, incubation centres, innovation hubs, and other stakeholders.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked Higher Education Institutions to widely disseminate the consultation and encourage participation.
