India’s Smart Cancer Drug RK-251 Targets Tumor Cells
Scientists in India have made an experimental drug called RK-251.
It is designed to work mostly inside cancer cells instead of healthy cells.
Cancer cells often have higher levels of reactive oxygen species, or ROS.
RK-251 uses these higher ROS levels as a signal to become active.
It then releases a compound called NBDHEX.
NBDHEX attacks proteins that some cancer cells need to survive.

Tests in zebrafish embryos did not show obvious toxicity.
