A company’s market capitalisation is the total value of all its shares.

In India, 119 companies were worth more than Rs 1 trillion by August 31, 2026.

That was more than the 94 companies at the end of March.

Mid-sized and smaller companies gained more than the biggest stock-market companies during this period.

Some newly listed companies also joined the group.

Laurus Labs and Adani Enterprises were among the companies whose values increased sharply.

Investors mainly chose companies they believed had strong business prospects and reasonable prices.

Foreign investors sold some large-company shares, while domestic investors continued buying Indian stocks.

Some government-owned companies lost value because of unfavorable news or disappointing earnings.
