Tata Slips, Adani Rallies as Earnings Drive Indian Stock Moves
On Wednesday, people who buy and sell parts of companies—called stocks—were watching many Indian companies.
The two big scoreboards of the Indian stock market, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, were going down a little.
Some companies from the Tata group, like TCS, became less valuable that day.
That is because the leader of Tata Sons, Mr Chandrasekaran, said he will step down in 2027, and people were unsure who will lead next.
Other companies from the Adani group went up in value.
That is because a court in the United States decided there was no case against the Adani leaders.
Some companies became much more valuable because they earned more money, like TD Power Systems and Bata India.
A few companies became less valuable because they earned less money, like Senco Gold and Triveni Turbine.
One company, Godrej Consumer Products, dropped a lot because its chief executive suddenly quit.
The stock market goes up and down every day based on news like profits, leaders, and court decisions.
Indian benchmark indices stayed under pressure at midday on Wednesday, with the Nifty 50 around 24,270 and the Sensex near 77,550.
Tata Group stocks declined after Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said he would not seek reappointment when his term ends on February 20, 2027; TCS fell about 5%.
Adani Group stocks gained after a US court dismissed securities fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy charges against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani.
TD Power Systems surged 19% on a 79% year-on-year profit jump, while Godrej Consumer Products plunged 10% after CEO Sudhir Sitapati's sudden resignation.
Bata India rallied nearly 9% on higher profit, while Senco Gold fell about 10% and Triveni Turbine dropped around 8% on weaker quarterly earnings.
