India Clears Rs 1.1 Lakh Crore Defence Procurements
India has approved plans to buy and develop many new military systems.
The Defence Acquisition Council made the approvals on Monday.
The plans are worth about Rs 1,10,000 crore.
The Army may receive vehicles, helicopters, mine layers, tanks and bridge systems.
The Navy may receive new radars and locally developed marine gas turbines.
The Air Force may receive equipment to improve its fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.
Jammers will help disrupt enemy radars, while smart cards will replace paper military passes.
Most of the purchases are expected to come from Indian companies, but approval is only the first step and does not guarantee that every order will be placed.
