Coast Guard safety drive reaches 25,000 Andhra fishermen
The Indian Coast Guard is a group that keeps the sea safe.
They visited many fishing villages in Andhra Pradesh, a state in India.
They talked to more than 25,000 fishermen.
They taught them how to stay safe on the water, like wearing life jackets.
They also told them about a special phone number, 1554, to call for help.
Fishermen were asked to tell the Coast Guard if they see anything strange or dangerous.
They learned how to help people who are hurt and how to be ready for big storms.
The Coast Guard also explained why there is a fishing ban for part of the year.
This helps fish babies grow so there will be more fish later.
The Coast Guard is celebrating 50 years of helping people, and they want to do even more to keep fishermen safe.
The Indian Coast Guard conducted nearly 1,000 Community Interaction Programmes across Andhra Pradesh during 2025-26.
The programmes reached more than 25,000 fishermen along the state's 1,050-km coastline.
Fishermen were sensitised to life jackets, communication equipment, distress devices, and the toll-free emergency number 1554.
They were encouraged to report suspicious vessels, unusual activities, maritime pollution, and distress situations.
The outreach coincides with the Coast Guard's 50th year of service, with plans to expand digital weather and distress communication initiatives.
