IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Across India
The weather office says several parts of India could get a lot of rain.
Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are among the places under heavy-rain warnings.
Parts of southern India may get heavy rain through Saturday, and rain could continue in Kerala until October 11.
Other areas, including parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha, may also get rain.
Uttar Pradesh does not have a heavy-rain warning for October 8.
In Lucknow, the Gomti River is still affecting low-lying areas.
Flooding there is linked largely to rainwater flowing in from upstream after a delay.
Several weather systems are helping cause the rain.
The southwest monsoon is also expected to retreat from some areas over the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain on Thursday, October 8, in Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to receive heavy rain from Thursday through Saturday; rain may continue in Kerala through October 11.
Fairly widespread rain is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal.
