NIA chargesheets two in Pakistan-linked plot to bomb passenger train
Police in India have caught a man they say was planning something very dangerous.
His name is Shubham Kumar, and police say he was carrying a bomb, a gun, bullets, heroin and a phone when they arrested him.
They believe these items were smuggled into India from Pakistan through cross-border channels.
They say Kumar was told to place a timer-operated bomb on a passenger train to hurt many people.
Another man named Jasvir Chaudhary is also accused, but the police have not caught him yet.
A special police team called the NIA has filed a formal list of accusations, called a chargesheet.
The police believe there may be plans for more attacks in Punjab and Delhi.
They are still investigating to find other members of the network.
The NIA filed a chargesheet against arrested accused Shubham Kumar and absconding accused Jasvir Chaudhary before the NIA Special Court in Mohali.
Both accused are booked under the UAPA, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, NDPS Act and Railways Act.
Kumar was allegedly found carrying a live IED in a metallic case, a remote-control device, a foreign-made .30 bore pistol with a magazine, 20 live cartridges, heroin and a mobile phone.
He was allegedly tasked with planting a timer-operated IED on a passenger train to cause large-scale casualties.
The alleged conspiracy involved a Pakistan-based handler, with plans for attacks at multiple locations in Punjab and Delhi to spread panic and threaten national security.
