NIA attaches Amritsar properties in 500-kg heroin smuggling case
In India, there is a special police group called the NIA that investigates very serious crimes.
The NIA took away two pieces of land in a city called Amritsar.
The land belonged to a man named Anwar Masih.
The police believe the land was bought with money earned from selling drugs.
The drugs were 500 kilograms of heroin brought into India from Pakistan by sea.
The police also think the money from selling the drugs was used to help a group called Lashkar-e-Taiba do bad things.
Because the land was bought with this bad money, the police took it away as punishment.
The police have arrested 26 people so far for helping with these crimes.
In a separate case, the police arrested someone for a bombing in Manipur in which two little children sadly died.
The NIA attached two properties in Amritsar, Punjab, belonging to accused Anwar Masih under Section 25(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The attached properties, Plot Nos. 128 and 129 in Phase-I of Akash Vihar, Sultanwind, were carried out on August 13 in the presence of independent witnesses and with the assistance of revenue authorities.
The case, registered as RC-26/2020/NIA/DLI and known as the Salaya drug seizure case, involves the smuggling of 500 kg of heroin from Pakistan to India through a sea route.
The NIA linked Masih to a transnational narco-terror network spanning Italy, Australia, the UAE, Thailand, Iran and Pakistan, allegedly financing terrorist activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Investigations are underway with 26 accused arrested so far; separately, the NIA on August 12 arrested an accused over an IED attack in Manipur that killed two children.
