Chakan and nearby villages have struggled with garbage management for 13 years.

The PMRDA plans to build one large waste-processing plant in Chakan MIDC.

It will use 36.5 acres of land.

Nineteen local government bodies are expected to use it.

These include two municipal councils and 17 gram panchayats.

Each local body will collect and separate its own garbage before sending it to the plant.

The system is being designed to handle population growth and waste for about 30 years.
