Indian Athletes Train in Container Rooms for Asian Games
Indian athletes may stay in unusual places during the Asian Games in Japan.
There will not be a normal athletes’ village for them.
To help athletes get used to this, the Sports Authority of India built small container rooms in Patiala and Bengaluru.
Athletes spend a night or more there before going to training.
The rooms have beds, air-conditioning, a bathroom, a small kitchen and places for equipment.
Some athletes found the rooms tight at first.
After trying them, they said they felt more prepared.
The goal is to help them focus on competing instead of worrying about where they are staying.
The Sports Authority of India has created simulated container rooms in Patiala and Bengaluru ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Athletes are staying overnight in the compact units to prepare for accommodation without a conventional athletes’ village in Japan.
The roughly 13-metre-long containers include bedrooms, air-conditioning, laundry facilities, a kitchenette, bathrooms and equipment storage.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor said the simulation could prevent unfamiliar accommodation from becoming a distraction during competition.
Seema Kaliramna said the space was initially difficult to adjust to but helped reduce uncertainty about the Games accommodation.
