Himachal CM Seeks Scientific Dredging to Reduce Flood Risks
CM Sukhu seeks time-bound scientific dredging of flood-hit river stretches in Himachal · theprint.in

Heavy rain and floods have filled some rivers in Himachal Pradesh with rocks, sand and other debris.

This makes it harder for the rivers to carry water.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu asked the central government to help remove the material safely.

He said the work could lower the danger to people, roads, bridges and other important structures.

Sukhu wants clear rules so dredging proposals can be approved more quickly.

He also wants river dredging treated separately from ordinary mining.

The work would be based on scientific studies and would mostly happen outside the monsoon season.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav said the Centre would issue guidelines and support Himachal Pradesh.
