Adani Power and Bhutan’s DGPC Advance 770-MW Hydropower Project
Adani Power and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation have agreed to develop a large hydropower project.
It will be called the Chamkharchhu-I project and can produce 770 megawatts of electricity.
The project will be built beside the Chamkharchhu River in Bhutan.
Bhutan’s utility will own 51% of it, and Adani Power will own 49%.
Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2027.
The project is meant to help Bhutan get electricity during the winter, when it needs more power.
If there is extra electricity in summer, it can be sent to India.
The project is part of a wider hydropower partnership between the companies and Bhutan.
Adani Power and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation signed an agreement to develop the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project.
The project will be built on the Chamkharchhu River in Zhemgang district, central Bhutan.
Adani Power will hold a 49% stake, while DGPC will hold 51%; the project will follow the BOOT model.
Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with commissioning targeted within six years of groundbreaking.
The project is intended to support Bhutan’s peak winter electricity needs and allow surplus power exports to India in summer.
