MCD Commissioner Flags Delays in CAQM Road Works Before Pollution Season
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is repairing many roads before the city’s high-pollution months.
Officials checked the projects and said the work was moving too slowly.
About 689 kilometres of roads are finished.
Another 193 kilometres are being worked on.
Some planned projects have not yet been awarded to contractors.
The city also needs Rs 553 crore more for 531 projects.
Engineers must check the work every day and fix problems quickly.
Concrete roads are supposed to finish by October 31, while bituminous roads are due by November 15.
The MCD commissioner found progress on CAQM road works “far from satisfactory” after reviews on September 22 and 23.
Of 1,300 planned road kilometres, 689 kilometres have been completed and 193 kilometres remain under active construction.
A total of 82 kilometres of planned work is yet to be awarded, while 565 kilometres is ongoing or partially complete.
Funds are available for 2,435 of 2,966 works; an additional Rs 553 crore is needed for 531 works covering 262 kilometres.
Engineers were directed to inspect projects daily and meet deadlines of October 31 for concrete roads and November 15 for bituminous roads.
