Heavy rain fell across parts of West Bengal for two days.

The rain weakened the walls of two mud houses in Bankura district.

One house collapsed in Sonamukhi, killing 76-year-old Beli Ruidas.

A second house collapsed in Simlapal while an elderly couple was sleeping.

The couple, Palku Baske and Soma Baske, later died at a hospital.

Neighbours and police helped rescue them from the damaged house.

Beli’s family said they had received money to build a new house, but it was not enough to finish it.

Rain may ease slightly on Thursday, but some southern districts could still receive rain until September 8.
