India, China Explore Early Harvest Approach in Border Talks
India and China have a disputed border called the Line of Actual Control.
Their officials met in Beijing to discuss how to keep the border peaceful.
They also talked about deciding where parts of the border should officially run.
Instead of solving the entire dispute at once, they may first settle a few easier sections.
This plan is called an “early harvest” approach.
Both countries said they want to keep talking and improve cooperation.
Relations became much worse after a military clash in 2020, but high-level meetings have resumed.
More progress will depend on whether the border remains calm and whether soldiers continue to disengage.
Ajit Doval and Wang Yi held the 25th Special Representatives’ talks in Beijing.
The discussions focused on border peace, management mechanisms and advancing the delimitation process.
Both sides are pursuing an “early harvest” approach to settle manageable sections of the disputed border first.
India and China reaffirmed the 2005 Political Guiding Principles and agreed to continue boundary negotiations.
The talks came ahead of Xi Jinping’s planned visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit on September 12.
