Indian Gold Nears ₹1.5 Lakh, Silver Slips Below ₹2.4 Lakh
Gold and silver are shiny metals that people in India love to buy.
Gold is often used to make jewellery like rings and necklaces.
There are two common types of gold: 24-karat, which is the purest, and 22-karat, which is stronger and better for jewellery.
On August 6, gold was almost ₹1.5 lakh for ten grams.
That is a lot of money!
Silver cost less than ₹2.4 lakh for one kilogram.
Prices are a little different in each city, like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Chennai had the highest prices for both metals.
Prices can change because of what is happening in the world economy.
Big jewellery shops like Tanishq and Malabar also set their own prices.
On August 6, 24-karat gold in India traded near ₹1.50 lakh per 10 grams, with Delhi quoting ₹1,49,870.
Silver fell below ₹2.4 lakh per kilogram, trading at ₹2,39,900 per kg in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Chennai recorded the highest rates: 24K gold at ₹1,50,010 per 10 grams and silver at ₹2,50,100 per kg.
Gold is sold mainly in two purities: 24-karat, the purest form, and 22-karat, preferred for jewellery due to alloyed metals that add strength and durability.
Retail jeweller rates on August 4, 2026 were largely stable, with Joyalukkas and Malabar Gold & Diamonds quoting 22K gold at ₹13,725 per gram and Tanishq at ₹13,770 per gram.
