Revanth directs optimal Godavari water use from lift projects
A leader in India called a big meeting about water.
His name is A. Revanth Reddy, and he is the Chief Minister of Telangana.
He wants people to use the water from a huge river called the Godavari in the best way possible.
He told the workers to lift water from three projects: Yellampalli, Devadula, and Sitarama.
Some big walls that hold water, called barrages, were not storing water the way safety experts said they should.
The safety experts are called the National Dam Safety Authority, and their advice must be followed.
A minister told the Chief Minister that two of these barrages have problems.
The Chief Minister also wants farmers to get money quickly if their land was taken for the water projects.
He ordered officials to visit villages that might get flooded by the water.
He also wants bigger pumps so more farms can get water.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed irrigation officials to ensure optimum utilisation of Godavari river water through lift operations from the Yellampalli, Devadula and Sitarama projects.
Water was not being stored in the Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages of the Kaleshwaram project in accordance with National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) recommendations.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy informed the meeting that defects had been identified in the Medigadda and Sundilla barrages.
Water-lifting operations at the Devadula project are being carried out using nine pumps, described as an unprecedented move.
Revanth Reddy directed officials to prepare an action plan for immediate disbursement of compensation to farmers whose land was acquired for projects.
