OCI, NRI Candidates Must Verify Documents for NEET UG Counselling
Every year, students in India who want to become doctors take a big test called NEET UG.
After the test, they go through a process called counselling to choose the medical college they want to join.
Some students live in other countries or have special Indian roots, and they are called NRI and OCI students.
These students can get special seats called NRI quota seats.
A group called the Medical Counselling Committee, or MCC, runs the counselling process.
MCC has said these students must show their special documents before they can choose their seats.
A special team from MCC will check the documents to make sure the students really qualify.
Once the documents are okay, the students can see both NRI seats and regular Indian seats.
MCC has also moved the date for choosing seats to August 8.
MCC says students should check their documents early so nothing goes wrong at the last moment.
MCC issued a notice dated August 6, 2026 requiring OCI and NRI candidates to verify documents for NRI quota eligibility in NEET UG Counselling 2026.
Document verification is mandatory and will be carried out by MCC's NRI Document Verification Team before choice-filling.
Candidates must select 'Yes' to the question 'Whether you want to apply for NRI Quota seats' during registration, which initiates verification.
Only candidates with successful verification can view and opt for NRI quota seats, as well as Indian Unreserved (UR) seats.
MCC postponed Round 1 choice filling to August 8, 2026 and advised candidates to complete verification well in advance.
