Six Tata Group Firms Post ₹68,341 Crore Combined Loss
The Tata Group is a very big family of companies in India, led by a chairman named N Chandrasekaran.
A chairman is like the captain of a big ship.
Between fiscal years 2023 and 2026, six of the group's companies lost a lot of money together — about ₹68,341 crore.
A crore is a very large number; one crore equals ten million.
The biggest losses came from Air India, the airline the group now owns, which lost ₹48,929 crore.
That is about 72% of all the losses.
The losses got smaller in 2024, but then they grew a lot again by 2026.
Chandrasekaran says fixing Air India takes a long time — about five to ten years.
He plans to step down as chairman in February 2027.
These numbers show how hard it can be to turn big businesses around.
Six Tata Group companies — Air India, Tata Digital, Tata Projects, Tata Play, Tata International and Tata Realty and Infrastructure — reported combined losses of ₹68,341 crore during FY23-FY26.
Air India accounted for the largest share at ₹48,929 crore, nearly 72% of the total, while Tata Digital added ₹12,154 crore, together making up close to 89% of the losses.
Combined losses fell to ₹6,322 crore in FY24 but surged 78% to ₹30,722 crore in FY26, with the final two years contributing around 70% of the four-year total.
Air India's losses more than doubled to ₹22,238 crore in FY26 from ₹10,859 crore a year earlier, a period Chandrasekaran said was part of a five-to-10-year transformation.
The period largely covered N Chandrasekaran's second term as Tata Sons chairman, and he is preparing to step down in February 2027, with Tata Trusts set to form a succession selection committee.
