Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran Resigns Amid Trust Tensions
Tata is one of the biggest companies in India.
It makes cars, steel, tea, clothes and even aeroplanes.
The person in charge of the whole group was a man named N Chandrasekaran.
On Wednesday, he said he was leaving his job.
He said the owners of Tata did not approve him staying for another term.
The biggest owner is a charity called Tata Trusts, which owns about two-thirds of Tata.
Now, Tata needs to find a new leader.
The group owns famous things like Air India aeroplanes and Jaguar cars.
Some people are worried about what happens next, so prices of some Tata shares went down.
Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran stepped down on Wednesday after failing to secure board approval for his reappointment amid tensions with Tata Trusts.
Tata Trusts, the group's charitable arm, owns about 66 per cent of Tata Sons, which controls more than 30 group companies.
Air India and Air India Express together operate nearly 300 aircraft, and Air India has posted losses every year since the Tata Group took over in 2022.
Tata Motors, which acquired Jaguar Land Rover for $2.3 billion in 2008, agreed in 2025 to buy Europe's Iveco Group in a $4.36 billion all-cash deal.
Shares of Tata companies including Tata Consultancy Services and Tata Steel fell after the news, though the group's market capitalisation tripled during Chandrasekaran's tenure.
