Parliament Questions IIT Faculty-Student Ratio; Centre Says 3,500 Filled
The IITs are very famous colleges in India where students study science and engineering.
People who work in Parliament wanted to know if these colleges have enough teachers.
They asked for the number of teachers compared to the number of students at each IIT.
The government said it filled more than 3,500 empty teacher jobs between September 2022 and May 2026.
But it did not tell them exactly how many teachers and students each IIT has.
The government explained that hiring teachers is an ongoing process.
Teachers leave when they retire or resign, and new teaching jobs are created when more students join or new courses start.
The IITs put out job advertisements throughout the year to find new teachers.
So the leaders got some answers, but not all the details they asked for.

The Lok Sabha response did not provide the current faculty-student ratio for individual IITs or the number of sanctioned, filled, and vacant faculty posts over the last five years, despite an MP seeking those details.
The Ministry of Education said the creation and filling of faculty vacancies is a 'continuous process'.
Vacancies arise due to retirements and resignations, as well as the creation of additional positions because of expansion in student enrolment and academic programmes.
The IITs issue rolling advertisements throughout the year to recruit faculty.
