UP Curriculum Framework: AI as Optional Subject, Draft Under Review
In Uttar Pradesh, the adults who run schools got together to make a plan for what older students should learn.
The plan is called the State Curriculum Framework.
At the meeting, someone suggested that students could choose to learn about Artificial Intelligence, which is the technology behind smart computers.
But this idea is not final yet — it is still just a suggestion.
They also talked about teaching more than books, like understanding feelings and caring about family and community.
One official said schools should feel like enjoyable places to be.
The first draft of the plan is now being shared with teachers and other education officials so they can share their ideas.
Once everyone gives feedback, the plan will be improved and made final.
Artificial Intelligence was proposed as an optional subject for Uttar Pradesh secondary schools, but it is not yet part of the final curriculum.
The draft State Curriculum Framework was developed at a workshop organized by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council that concluded on August 7, 2026.
A total of 32 principals of government secondary schools from districts across Uttar Pradesh participated in the workshop.
Officials suggested that student assessment should include emotional development, not just marks and academic performance.
The draft has been circulated to education officials and government school principals, who have been asked to review it and provide suggestions.
