CSIR-NGRI Expands Groundwater Training and Sustainable Water Management
CSIR-NGRI is working to help people find and manage groundwater.
It uses geophysical tools to study where water is underground, especially in places short of water.
The institute is running a 10-day course called BhuNEER 2026.
Students, researchers, and professionals get practical training in groundwater exploration.
The course also teaches ways to use artificial intelligence to study geophysical data.
Water conservation leader Rajendra Singh visited the institute and shared lessons from community water projects.
He said communities, especially farmers, should help manage and recharge groundwater.
He also explained that crops suited to local rainfall can help reduce irrigation costs.
CSIR-NGRI is applying geophysical technologies to identify and assess groundwater, particularly in water-stressed regions.
The 10-day BhuNEER 2026 programme offers field-oriented groundwater exploration training under the Skill India initiative.
Training includes Electrical Resistivity Tomography, EVRI, Ground TEM, Towed TEM, field data work, and AI/ML applications.
Dr. Rajendra Singh urged scientific aquifer recharge and community participation, alongside engineering measures, to conserve water.
He cited work involving nearly 15,800 locally built check dams that contributed to reviving rivers and about 2.5 lakh wells.
