Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train: Surat station nears completion, BKC work advances
India is building its very first bullet train, a super-fast train that will travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
It will go up to 320 kilometers per hour, so the trip will take only about two hours.
Workers are building special stations along the 508-kilometer route.
One station in Surat is almost finished — the outside is done and workers are now working on the inside.
Another station in Mumbai is being built about 30 meters underground, as deep as a ten-story building.
The line will have 12 stations and pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The first train ride is expected to happen in August 2027.
When it opens, people will travel between the two cities much faster and more comfortably.
Surat station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor has completed its structural framework and roofing, with interior finishing work now underway.
Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex station, built nearly 30 metres underground, is concluding excavation and foundation work.
The 508-km corridor will have 12 stations across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Trains are expected to reach speeds of up to 320 km/h, cutting Mumbai-Ahmedabad travel time to around two hours.
The first high-speed rail service is expected to begin in August 2027, following the project's September 2017 foundation stone.
