Allahabad High Court Flags Huge Disparity in Private Hospital Fees

A court in India called the Allahabad High Court said that some private hospitals charge sick people very high and very different prices for the same treatments.

The judges said patients should not be made to pay unfair, huge bills just because they are ill.

The court is worried that there are not strong enough rules to keep hospital prices fair.

There is a law from 2010 that was supposed to set good standards for hospitals, but the judges say it does not do enough to make sure prices are reasonable.

Hospitals are supposed to show their prices and charge within a set range, but that does not seem to always happen.

The court asked the government for a list of private hospitals that got government help, like cheap land.

Those hospitals were supposed to give cheaper treatment to poor people.

The court also wants to know if the councils that watch over hospitals are actually working.

It asked for reports about hospital inspections in Lucknow from the last five years.

The state government must explain what it is doing, and the next court hearing will be on September 21.
