Ladakh Pashmina Herders Meet Buyers in Srinagar for Better Prices
Ladakh holds buyer-seller meet in Srinagar to ensure better returns for Pashmina herders · thestatesman.com

In Ladakh, a region famous for its soft wool, many herders who raise special goats called Changra met with more than 100 buyers and traders in the city of Srinagar.

They talked about how to sell their wool directly, so the herders could get better money and no middlemen would take a cut.

The Deputy Commissioner, Nitish Rajora, said the area has about 184,000 goats and that cooperatives help the herders get fair prices.

Big business leaders from local chambers also came to listen and talk about buying the wool.

The meeting also announced a new phone app that will let herders and buyers talk online, share prices, and get help from the government.

This should make it easier for the herders to earn a living and keep the wool’s quality high.
