World's Highest Art Biennale Transforms Ladakh's Leh–Kargil Corridor

In Ladakh, a place high up in the mountains, something amazing is happening.

An art show called the sā Ladakh Biennale is taking place outside, in the open air.

Instead of pictures hanging on museum walls, artworks are placed across villages and mountains.

The whole area between the towns of Leh and Kargil has become a giant gallery.

It is so high that no other art show like it happens anywhere else in the world.

The art is about the land, the weather, local stories, and what people who live there know.

Nineteen artists from Ladakh and other countries made the artworks.

Visitors can see installations, watch films, and join workshops as they travel.

The show runs until 10 August 2026.

The name 'sā' means 'soil' in the Ladakhi language, and the organisers want art to grow from the land, not just sit on it.
