Odisha Special Vigilance Courts Jail Three Former Officials
Three retired government workers in Odisha were found guilty in separate corruption cases.
One was a doctor who took money connected to a patient’s hydrocele operation.
Another accepted money to provide a favorable report in a land-record case.
The third official was found to have assets that were too large compared with his known income.
The doctor was sentenced to four years in prison.
The other two officials each received one-year prison sentences.
The third official was also fined Rs 50,000.
Vigilance officials said they would ask for the officials’ pensions to be stopped.

Former surgeon Dr Debendranath Nayak received four years’ rigorous imprisonment for accepting a bribe linked to a hydrocele operation.
Former Assistant Revenue Inspector Durga Prasad Sahu was sentenced to one year for bribery in a mutation case.
Former Soil Conservation Officer Kartikeswar Sahu received one year in prison and a Rs 50,000 fine in a disproportionate-assets case.
Vigilance authorities said they would seek stoppage of the retired officials’ pensions.
