Legal Metrology Official Sentenced to Three Years in Bribery Case
Once there was a government worker named Nangoth Swamy whose job was checking scales and weighing machines.
In 2017, a man gave him 30,000 rupees to help renew a licence for a weighbridge.
Taking money and gifts to do special favours at work is called bribery.
Bribery is against the law because it is not fair to everyone else.
A special police group called the ACB caught him.
A special court in the city of Kurnool heard his case.

The judge said he must go to prison for three years.
He also must pay a fine of 2 lakh rupees, and if he does not pay, he will stay in prison for six more months.

The Kurnool ACB Special Court convicted legal metrology official Nangoth Swamy in a bribery case registered in 2017 and sentenced him to three years' rigorous imprisonment.
Swamy was fined Rs 1 lakh under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and another Rs 1 lakh under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(d), totalling Rs 2 lakh.
Both three-year sentences will run concurrently; defaulting on payment of each fine adds six months' simple imprisonment.
Swamy demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 30,000 from B. Ramalingayya of Allagadda on July 15, 2017, at his Kurnool residence to favour renewal of the Sri Rajyalakshmi weighbridge licence.
The articles differ on Swamy's current designation in Tirupati — regional inspector according to one and assistant controller according to the other — and both note the licence was held in the complainant's wife's name.
