Mumbai Police Remove 1,497 Unauthorised Paan Shops in July
The police in Mumbai, a big city in India, are trying to make the city safe from drugs.
In July, they removed almost 1,500 paan shops that were not allowed to be there.
Paan is a leaf people chew, and some paan shops sell tobacco and other things that can be bad for you.
The police are especially worried about shops near schools and colleges.
That is because they don't want students to easily get tobacco or other addictive things.
The campaign is called 'Drug-Free Mumbai'.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, started this campaign.
The police say they will not allow any drug selling or trafficking in the city.
They are also teaching people, especially young people, about how dangerous drugs can be.
The police want everyone to work together to keep Mumbai healthy and safe.
In July 2026, Mumbai Police removed 1,497 unauthorised paan shops across the city as part of the 'Drug-Free Mumbai' campaign.
The campaign was launched by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to curb the production, supply, trafficking and sale of narcotics.
Divisional action: 480 shops in the Northern division, 480 in the Central, 199 in the Southern, 173 in the Eastern and 165 in the Western.
Special focus was placed on removing unauthorised paan kiosks operating near school and college premises.
Police are running awareness programmes and have adopted a zero-tolerance policy under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
