Pakistan Link Probed After Threats To Mumbai Businessman

A Mumbai businessman named Imtiyaz Khatri said he received threats.

The threats came after he reportedly supported action against an unauthorised mosque.

Police arrested Mohammed Shafik Mohammed Akbar Lone in Mahabaleshwar.

They found messages and voice notes connected to Pakistani and other international numbers.

Police said one Pakistani number had been in contact with an Indian number registered to Shafik.

Shafik allegedly said the number belonged to someone called “Faiyaz Kashmiri,” whom he met through Facebook.

Investigators are checking whether Shafik’s relatives and contacts have connections to Pakistan or terrorist groups.

The investigation is continuing, and the suspected links have not been established as facts.
