Delhi Metro Marks Partition Horrors Remembrance Day With Exhibitions
The Delhi Metro has set up special displays at two stations in the city to teach people about the Partition of India.
August 14 is called Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, and it is remembered every year.
The displays show the pain and suffering of millions of people who were hurt during Partition.
A Metro official said Partition caused the biggest forced move of people in the country's history.
People can visit these displays at Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate Metro stations until August 21.
The Metro is also getting ready for Independence Day, which happens the next day.
On Independence Day, trains will start running at 4 o'clock in the morning.
Before regular service starts, trains will come every 30 minutes.
Special guests get special QR tickets so they can ride the Metro to the Red Fort for the celebrations.
The Ministry of Defence will pay the Metro back for these tickets.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has organised Partition exhibitions at Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate Metro stations for 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'.
The remembrance day, observed annually on August 14, honours millions of Partition victims whose suffering DMRC says is 'vividly portrayed' in the exhibition.
DMRC's Anuj Dayal described Partition as the largest displacement of human population in the country's history that 'forever altered the nation's social fabric'.
The exhibitions will be open for public viewing until August 21.
On Independence Day, Metro services will start at 4 a.m. on all lines with 30-minute frequency, and 1,30,000 special QR tickets have been provided to the Ministry of Defence.
